Is Abmeldung24 a government authority?
No. Abmeldung24 is a private online service. As a registered bulk customer of the Federal Motor Transport Authority, we submit your deregistration to the responsible registration office, which issues the decision.
What do I need for online deregistration?
Your plate number, the registration certificate (part I) with its 7-character security code and both plates with one 3-character code each on the sticker.
How long does deregistration take?
Entering the details takes a few minutes. The decision usually arrives by e-mail shortly afterwards. If the office checks manually, it can take a few working days.
What does deregistration cost?
€49.90 including the official fee and VAT. You can optionally add a plate reservation.
Do I have to cancel my insurance myself?
No. Your insurer and customs (for vehicle tax) are notified electronically after deregistration. You should still keep the decision.
What do I do with the old plates?
After deregistration the plates are invalid. You can dispose of them or keep them. If you want to keep the letter-number combination, reserve it in the form.
What if my registration certificate has no security code?
Documents issued before 2015 often have no covered field. Then deregistration is only possible in person – at any registration office in Germany, with the certificate and the plates.
I damaged a code. What now?
If a code is no longer legible, online deregistration may fail. Write to us and we will check the options with you. If in doubt, deregistration in person remains.
Can I deregister a car I sold?
The registered keeper can deregister. If the buyer has already transferred the vehicle, no deregistration is needed. Agree in writing who deregisters when you sell.
When may the vehicle no longer be driven?
As soon as it is deregistered. It may then neither be driven nor parked on public roads.
